Italian design company, Ginkgo, is changing the face of umbrellas one part at a time.  Sustainably-made, Ginkgo umbrella has  thought outside the ‘umbrella’ and created a functional and classy design. No inside-out umbrellas anymore!

Want to be part of the development? Raising funds through Indiegogo you can support this creative initiative and get an umbrella in return (depending on your funding option). Seriously, this company has thought of it all – the difference they are making just by changing the materials used in an umbrella (a must have in Melbourne).

Eg. Every year you could cover a city like New York (700 Km²) with the umbrella canopies wasted in the world.  These objects are made in polyester, a material that biodegrade in 100 years.

Ginkgo is made entirely in a single material. All the parts, from the canopy’s fabric to the seams’ thread, from the pole to the closing button, are made from polypropylene. All the fastening elements, such as screws, pivots and especially glue, have been replaced by integrated snap-fit elements. Thanks to these solutions, when Ginkgo finally reaches the end of its useful life you can just toss it in the recycle bin. No need to disassemble the components.

Meaningful eco-goodness at it’s best!

One of my big lessons over the past few years was to let go of the idea of control. We can only control certain aspects of our lives and how we react to situations. In my learning and development world, we call this the Circle of Concern and Influence. Stephen Covey...
