Community Day

Yesterday I enjoyed a day of community.  It was a sunny, albeit chilly, day in Melbourne with cloud-free skies.  Everyone seemed to come out of hibernation!

My first visit with the new community hub in Southbank, Boyd.  A place where locals and visitors can hang out.  There’s even a meaningful cafe in there permanently, exactly what we need in Southbank!

KereKere is a café which gives back. Named after the concept that inspired it – ‘KereKere’ is a Fijian custom in which a relative or neighbour can request something that is needed and it must be willingly given with no expectation of repayment. This spirit is the core of the KereKere social and business model – give without expectation.

So next time you are near the former JH Boyd Girls’ High School at 207-229 City Road, Southbank, visit the lovely Boyd space, hangout for a fair trade coffee and meet the people who make this space possible.

My day continued with a fundraiser for the Yirrkala Project 2012.  We showed The Happy Movie to 30 friends at Mission to Seafarers chapel – the perfect venue for the event.  I highly recommend this moving and meaningful movie.  Many on the day said how it really inspired them. Thanks to all who attended – it is greatly appreciated.

It made me realise how important community is.

Do you know your neighbours?

Have you tried random acts of kindness in your community?

Do you tell people you care?

Sometimes it’s these simple little things that can make a big difference to someones day/life.

Happy ‘meaningful’ Sunday peeps.  Sending cyber hugs. x

Single in the Silly Season

I'm really grateful for my life as it is. I'm single and I'm happy about it. At this time of year, I can do whatever I want - when I want. #singal [I'm creating a new hashtag for us single gals!] I usually find this time of year an effort. I kind of drag myself...

Surrender

Surrender

One of my big lessons over the past few years was to let go of the idea of control. We can only control certain aspects of our lives and how we react to situations. In my learning and development world, we call this the Circle of Concern and Influence. Stephen Covey...
