One of my favourite social enterprises is STREAT.
For the last two years they’ve had one of their coffee carts stationed at Melbourne Central – which has directly provided 52 youth with thousands of hours of training and employment making coffees.
As a not for profit social enterprise they are dedicated to supporting and training homeless youth. This includes a six-months program and on completion, they receive a nationally recognised Certificate I and II in hospitality from the William Angliss Institute. And that’s not all, they are also supported in job searching. How wonderful is this business!
STREAT are eager to expand the site into a full cafe which will enable an increase in the number of youth they can train and also provide food prep skills and a broader range of Front of House opportunities. The GPT Group, the Centre’s owner, have agreed that if STREAT raise $40,000 they’ll match it dollar for dollar. Wow! What a thoughtful approach to supporting business – good on you GPT Group. Imagine what this will do for all stakeholders.
Being true to their cause, STREAT will also be working with Six Degrees Architects to build a unique ‘environmental and upcycled’ cafe.
I cannot wait. Want to know more? Check out this video by RMIT students here.
Remember – every dollar you pledge will be turned into two dollars!
